Crumble life: I will fall in love with your pieces poem 20

It was rather
beautiful: the way he
put her insecurities to
sleep.
The way he dove into
her eyes and starved
all the fears
and tasted all the
dreams she kept
coiled beneath her
bones.

but love wins in the end

I love everything about you,
you're imperfectly perfect
Everyone's itching for beauty,
but just scratchin' the surface
Lost time is never found, can the
DJ please reverse it
In life we pay for change, let's
make every second worth it
Anything can work if you work it
when people say you don't deserve it
Then don't give in, 'cuz hate may win
some battles, but love wins in the end

bless you, Nelson Mandela

"We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right."

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela has been a presence in my life my whole adult life.  I cut my political chops on the anti-apartheid movement in the 1980's.  I learned about humanity, justice, equality, forgiveness, commitment, the importance of using my voice to create change.  "Free Nelson Mandela" was an anthem of my youth.

His release from prision in 1990 was a connecting point in a new friendship.  I remember phoning Christy when I heard the news of his release.  We never thought we'd see the day...  A group of us gathered to watch his interview with Barbara Frum on CBC.  Thanks, Barry, for having a television.

And then, I saw him speak.  His first public appearance outside of South Africa after his release.  I left work early, under the guise of a doctor's appointment.  The Montréal Jubilation Gospel Choir performed, the crowd gathered, the energy built.  The cheering & out pouring of love & respect settled, and a hush fell over the crowd.  I had lost my friend in the crowd and, I looked around at the people I was sharing this experience with.  A suit wearing, middle aged, seemingly conservative businessman stood beside me.  Tears streaming down his face.  23 years later, and I remember it in my heart as if it were yesterday.

The event came to an end and people started to disperse, I had a floaty, other worldly feeling.  Kind of the post-meditation light & bright feeling.  I started making my way home, seeing Montréal & the people around me in a whole new way.

Mandela had a second speaking engagement that day, at a church close to my home in St. Henri.  I passed by, in my floaty state of being.  The church was full to overflowing.  Hundreds of people surrounded the church, listening to him through the speakers mounted outside.  The hope that filled the streets was palpable.

I think that it is that HOPE that has spoken to so many people over the years.  To be hopeful in times of hardship, to be forgiving in times of injustice, to be loving in the midst of anger, to be inspiring in times of hopelessness, to find a voice when being silenced.  This is the legacy Nelson Mandela leaves in my heart.

Bless you, Nelson Mandela.

Tiny Eternities and Magnificent stars poem 9

She buried
       her ears
   into the calm
        of his heartbeat,
and in a matter of seconds:
  fell terribly in love
        with the way
     her loneliness fell
 softly and suddenly,
         asleep,
      in his chest.

that is what loving someone is

"Go after her. Fuck, don’t sit there and wait for her to call, go after her because that’s what you should do if you love someone, don’t wait for them to give you a sign cause it might never come, don’t let people happen to you, don’t let me happen to you, or her, she’s not a fucking television show or tornado. There are people I might have loved had they gotten on the airplane or run down the street after me or called me up drunk at four in the morning because they need to tell me right now and because they cannot regret this and I always thought I’d be the only one doing crazy things for people who would never give enough of a fuck to do it back or to act like idiots or be entirely vulnerable and honest and making someone fall in love with you is easy and flying 3000 miles on four days notice because you can’t just sit there and do nothing and breathe into telephones is not everyone’s idea of love but it is the way I can recognize it because that is what I do. Go scream it and be with her in meaningful ways because that is beautiful and that is generous and that is what loving someone is, that is raw and that is unguarded, and that is all that is worth anything, really."

The Universe and Her, and I poem 71

I recently connected with a poet & artist selling his works on Etsy, Christopher Poindexter.  Love poems written on an old typewriter - two of my very favourite things coming together!  I am so pleased that Christopher has given permission for his poetry to be featured here, at love is always the answer.  Visit us on Mondays, for a weekly hit of Christopher Poetry.  What better to start the week, but with a love poem?

The Universe and Her, and I

Love is many things and
sometimes we are never
really sure if it even
exists, but all I know
is that if you were to
show me her soul
in a photograph,
I wouldn't even ask
to see the others.

I love you without knowing

I love you without knowing
how, or when or from where.
I love you straightforwardly,
without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know
no other way than this:
where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand
on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close
as I fall asleep.

I love you simply

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

"Because of the dog’s joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. always beautiful

“Weeks passed, and the little Rabbit grew very old and shabby, but the Boy loved him just as much. He loved him so hard that he loved all his whiskers off, and the pink lining to his ears turned grey, and his brown spots faded. He even began to lose his shape, and he scarcely looked like a rabbit any more, except to the Boy. To him he was always beautiful, and that was all that the little Rabbit cared about. He didn't mind how he looked to other people, because the nursery magic had made him Real, and when you are Real shabbiness doesn't matter.”

a secret about human love

“There is a secret about human love that is commonly overlooked: Receiving it is much more scary and threatening than giving it. How many times in your life have you been unable to let in someone’s love or even pushed it away? Much as we proclaim the wish to be truly loved, we are often afraid of that, and so find it difficult to open to love or let it all the way in.”

the most beautiful thing you’ll hear

"Probably the most beautiful thing you’ll hear in a long while. Beauty all around us, it just needs the right people to tweak it. I’ve nothing else to add with my clumsy words: just go, follow the link and take five minutes; take a break and really listen to it."

Tom Waits (on Robert Wilson): “Wilson, he’s always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts – you wouldn’t believe it. It’s like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it’s just slowed down, they didn’t manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there’s something to be said for slowing down the world.”

Love is the only way

"Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality. No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him. By his love he is enabled to see the essential traits and features in the beloved person; and even more, he sees that which is potential in him, which is not yet actualized but yet ought to be actualized.

"Furthermore, by his love, the loving person enables the beloved person to actualize these potentialities. By making him aware of what he can be and of what he should become, he makes these potentialities come true."

LOVE-ISM

~ so beautiful  ~

Choreographer Mor Shani is working on “Love-ism”. Love-ism is a long term study inspired by the book “Art of Loving” by Erich Fromm. In this study Shani wishes to challenge the perception and liquidity of the agreed upon, the sublime and the condemned. He asks: “when do supreme ideas about love like care, mutuality and dependency stop being sacred and become sinful? And what is it that distinguishes one kind of love from another?”
Video artist, Paul Sixta expands the conceptual grounds of Love-ism in close collaboration with Shani. He challenges the discussion by making the process of creation transparent, and is creating a film about the "Politics of Intimacy", researching the human experience of meeting significant others in and out of the studio. The stage product and the film will be presented as one piece.

what love means :: a child's perspective

What Love means to a 4-8 year old: A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ’What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined

See what you think:
